|ABOUT BILLY ANGELO STELLA
From the tender age of only 4 months old, Billy Angelo Stella has had a set of drumsticks in his hands.
Billy Angelo had the finest instructor one could ask for, his own Father, Angelo. Angelo was the
Wyoming Valley’s #1 Top Flight Drummer and Drum Instructor for 45 years. It was Angelo who inspired
Billy to practice for hours on end, without being asked. Angelo was an idol to Billy and someone to
follow in the footsteps of. Billy’s Grandfather, Professor William Angelo Stella, Sr., was a professor of all
instruments and was the inspiration behind Angelo’s learning to play the drums when he was only 12
By the age of 18 months, Billy was playing and learning from his Father. He was playing nationally by
the age of 2 starting with "The David Blight Revue". As a toddler, Billy would practice on anything he
could find from pots to pans to grocery cans and would play with forks, spoons, and pencils.
Billy Angelo has played with more than 91 Jazz, Rock, Country, Latin, and Ethnic bands
throughout the country. He has played, and been recorded, on television and radio, and has toured
the U.S.A. and Canada. During his school tenure, at Plains High School he was under the direction of
Mr. William Mann and at Coughlin High School under the direction of Mr. Agesino Primatic.
He has been in the company of television and music personalities such as Johnny Carson, Willie Nelson,
Dusty Springfield, Jimmy Sturr, Boots Randolph, world-renowned pianist George Winston, John Lennon,
and Michael Bolton; rock bands such as REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, and Peter Frampton; as well as
comedians Charlie Callas, George Carlin, Andrew Dice Clay, and Chelsea Handler; and actors such as
Ashton Kutcher, John Cryer, Ed O'Neill, Sofia Vergara, Anna Faris, Lindsay Lohan, Allison Janney, and
Hollywood Make-Up Artist Kenneth Hogan. He has also been in the company of some of the greatest
drummers of all-time including Roy Burns, Joe Morello, Gene Krupa, Louie Bellson, Joe Causatis, Steve
Smith, Ted Reed, and Tony Monforte.
From 1969 to 1972, Billy performed with Buddy Rich and the Buddy Rich Band. Buddy and his
musicians were deeply impressed by his ability to play so well at such a young age. Buddy remarked,
“Billy is the youngest talent I have ever seen.” In the Late 70's, Billy was on tour with National Hit
Recording Artists, The Orlons, who had hits such as "Wa-Watusi", "South Street", and "Don't Hang Up".
Most recently, Billy was the subject of a feature article in the “June 2003” Issue of “Modern Drummer” as
well as the “February 2005” Issue of “DRUM!” Magazine. And today, he is married to his beautiful wife
Tisha and has three beautiful grandchildren.
Billy’s career now spans six decades. As one drummer put it, “When he sits behind the
drums and begins to play, watch out! He plays sounds that cannot be written, and makes it
look so easy; but it’s not! What he does with his hands and FOOT is totally awesome. Pulling
off patterns on and off the beat makes you wonder ~ Where did he come from? I've seen him
on good nights and bad nights and was totally amazed. He inspires me to practice and excel
Billy is now continuing the Stella legacy by teaching in his Father’s drum studio and is also the author
of two drum books “Bill’s Fills – Easy Fills for the Beginner Rock Drummer” and his newest
sensation, and best selling book “The Drummercise Workout”. You can see where his drumming
takes him when you look at Bill's Photos from 1959 through present, and even today Mr. Stella is still
traveling the country playing with many renowned bands and performing drum clinics. The drum studio,
now known as The Drummer’s Workshop, is located at 39 School Street, in the Hudson section of Plains
