if you want to rock, you have to learn how to roll!
for all students under the age of 18, we require a parent or guardian to be present at all drum lessons, for the entire session. this is not optional. if a parent or guardian is not present, the lesson will not be given.
let's face facts, playing music is an exhuberating and relaxing way of life. it keeps a person's brain sharp and intelligent. with hand and eye coordination, a person can excel to a higher goal in life.
in the words of professor billy angelo stella, music and musical training will keep a person young at heart, in mind, and in body.
also, learning to play a musical instrument can put money in your pocket. with today's gas prices, food, insurances, etc., music will help put money in your wallet. it's a great way to meet new people and see different places. all you have to do is apply yourself to your musical instrument and practice a lot, and often. don't ever give up and believe in yourself. the rewards in life are phenomenal.
at the drummer's workshop, billy angelo stella teaches both male and female students, starting at the age of 12.
all students begin by learning music theory (and applying it to the drums), knowledge of the parts of the drumsticks, and how to hold them in a set position on the drumset. for the curious, there are four (4) ways to hold a set of drumsticks.
notation is taught and the student will learn to read drum music, different time signatures, rudiments (the scales of the drums), in basic and progressive styles of drumming. also, coordinated independence studies. coordination and timing (two major factors in music), technique, accuracy, and dynamics are taught.
the utilization of rhythms and drum fills are also key factors in mr. stella's teaching. many different rhythms are taught, such as waltzes, polka's, tango's, cha cha's, bolero's, rhumba's, just to name a few.
lessons are scheduled every two weeks for one (1) hour. each lesson begins with a warm-up on a practice pad before you begin.
what is expected of the student is that he/she be honest and open to learning everything about the drums.
if a student has difficulty with any lesson, and has a hard time performing, or just doesn't understand it, the student must inform mr. stella. honesty pays off in a big way.
lessons "must" be practiced so that the student can advance to the next level. each student must practice for one (1) hour "every other day" during the two (2) week period.
please contact billy angelo or patricia lee for more information on lessons, prices, and availability to meet your schedule.
remember this . . . it's not the "drumset" that makes the "drummer" . . . it's the "drummer" that makes the "drumset".
